The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of Aerial work platforms (AWP’s) to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards. This role requires a blend of higher technical competence, leadership, and strategic planning to enhance service efficiency, minimize downtime, and optimize equipment performance. The AWP Technical Manager will support a high-performing team, ensuring a safe, compliant, and productive environment. This position serves as a central liaison, coordinating between regional teams to standardize processes, improve efficiency, and ensure that all technical operations align with the organization’s goals.
Your role as a Technical Manager
Technical Operations Management
- are operationally ready and meet business demands.
- Implement standardized procedures and best practices across both locations to ensure uniformity in maintenance, repairs, and safety protocols.
- Monitor and report on equipment usage, downtime, and performance metrics, analyzing data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and drive the execution and monitor the performance of the Manlift wide maintenance strategy, standards, processes, policies and tools to optimize the availability for rental of all machines and to enable sales of machines to occur in an efficient manner;
- Define/approve and monitor annual budgets, plans, and goals for the Technical Department;
- Define, communicate, lead the implementation of and drive the performance of the Manlift wide repair and maintenance strategy to implement and sustain the Manlift Standard in terms of machine condition and technical availability.
Strategic Planning & Operational responsibilities
- Manage and deliver on OEM and company maintenance schedules that optimize equipment availability and minimize service interruptions for both regions.
- Plan and coordinate resource allocation, including manpower and parts, across the Dubai and Abu Dhabi regions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Lead initiatives to assess and upgrade equipment in line with emerging technology, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.
- Sustain existing and available rental depot best practices relating to the AWP fleet and the rental cycle.
- Ensures the approved documents are used in daily operations, i.e. “service work Orders” “break down reports” “1st check reports” and “damage missing equipment” reports
- Uses the company “EDP” system to record and update activities in conjunction with other team members
- Adopts a contingency “EDP” tool at any time ethe company “EDP” system is not available (e.g. excel or similar)
- Manages all works contracted to third parties and contracted labour hire companies, including up to date “supplier evaluations”
- Ensures that all depot AWP transportation tasks (load/unload, securing, crane use etc) are performed correctly following our adopted best practises and delivery driver trainings.
- Manages the correct and timely warranty claim process
- Supports the “field service technical team” to ensure that workshop and field teams are aligned in their progress.
- Ensures the field service vehicles, are efficiently managed (organised, clean and equipped with standardised tools and parts)
Safety & Compliance Assurance
- Ensure that all AWP equipment meets to the company applied management policies, (refer doc cmp). Additionally local regulatory requirements and international safety standards, including those specific to the UAE shall be followed where applicable.
- Enforce the adoption of “The Manlift Way” (TMW) by leading the national planning, direction, and coordination of Continuous Improvement techniques in all depots in collaboration with the Operations Manager and/or Country Manager;
- Improves underperforming KPI’s by Initiating, facilitating and leading, assigned GEMBA and Kaizen Events using methods of team building, team energizing, data gathering and analysis, problem solving, project management;
- Manage follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementation to assure timely action, appropriate management support, sustaining improvements and achievement of expected benefits;
- Embed and support the “pillars” in the application of the TMW KPI Framework in the depot. Monitor, analyze and report at designated intervals, on performance of TMW KPI’s, and initiate performance improvement actions;
- Support the operations Manager in Scheduling and conducting Continuous Improvement Reviews (CIR’s), report on adoption level of TMW; develop and monitor execution of Action Plan to exploit identified opportunity;
- Implement a structured improvement (The TMW curriculum) process with frequent improvement meetings, up-to date improvement boards, data driven decision making; and a structured systematic approach to reducing the “8 types waste” in all environments.
- Drives and supports the use of “Standardized Work” to continuously improve quality, efficiency and consistency;
- Develops and updates “standard work times” for the common maintenance/repair tasks
- Identify and documents TMW Best Practices in standard template, drive and facilitate sharing within the Manlift Group, drive implementation in Depots, (this includes existing available Best practices from our BP library.)
- Oversee the proper management and security of materials, spare parts and equipment;
Finance, Commercial & Procurement Coordination
- Collaborate with the Finance and Commercial teams to meet rental cycle KPI’s and special requirements effectively.
- Oversee procurement, negotiation, and inventory management for spare parts, equipment, and tools, sourcing from both local and international suppliers.
- Conduct site surveys, estimations, and quantity surveys for sales-related business, and interpret policies and procedures for customers and suppliers.
Team Supervision & Development
- Provide regular oversight and support to technical staff during their daily activities, e.g. troubleshooting, applying quality maintenance practices, efficiently following mandated process etc. including the timely execution, analyzing and resolving of process issues, and promoting high safety standards.
- Conduct appraisals, assessment interviews, and recommend improvements in working conditions, contract terms, salary increases, and training opportunities.
- Oversee the proper management of spare parts, tools, and equipment inventory, ensuring efficient operations and budget compliance.
Key Competencies
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Aerial Work Platform systems (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical) and safety standards including, OEM mandated maintenance and equipment operational protocols, best practices working with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical componentry; relevant UAE regulations).
- Leadership & Team Management: Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and motivating multi-regional technical teams.
- Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis and KPI management for driving operational improvements.
- Continuous Improvement: Skilled in CI methodologies (Kaizen, Gemba, Lean, Six Sigma); experience in embedding best practices.
- Strategic Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize, manage resources, and execute projects efficiently across regions.
- Financial Acumen: Experience in budget management, cost optimization, and procurement.
- Project & Asset Management: Familiarity with maintenance software, asset tracking, and inventory systems.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical) or equivalent technical qualifications.
- Certifications in Aerial Work Platform operations or relevant technical management.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel frequently between the Dubai and Abu Dhabi regions to oversee operations and support teams on-site.
- Valid driver’s license and certification to inspect and operate AWP equipment as needed.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and tools; experience with inventory and asset tracking systems is a preferred.
Work experience
- Proven track record of 10-15 years of experience in AWP maintenance and management, ideally within a regional or multi-site capacity.
- Evidence of AWP OEM training courses completed is an advantage.
